As the content within our web sites get updated frequently, the need for Content Management Systems arose, and the following choices were made in order to expedite the fresh content required in updating our sites on a daily basis in a systematic manner.

MyPHPNuke

PromotionData.com was constructed using the myPHPNuke web portal system. myPHPNuke is an automated news system especially designed for use in Intranets and/or the Internet. Using a MySQL database core, MPN gives complete flexibility in both administrative and user options. By using a database, dynamic pages are constructed on the fly for a rich and interactive experience.

Although Content Management Systems are still very much technically oriented, developers are becoming more sensitive to user interface and administrative functions. myPHPNuke is known for its quality and ease of use, and is preferred by many new website administrators.

phpWebSite

For a period of time we were using the content management system phpWebSite but have recently discontinued doing so as the domain we were using the system for does not require it's use any longer. phpWebSite allows an individual or group to easily maintain an interactive, community-driven web site. The 0.9.x series of phpWebSite has a true modular nature. Every module has it's own files, templates, installation and version information, and graphics. phpWebSite itself is really just a main core and several core modules. During installation, you can choose to install the core modules only. All other modules will have to be added by hand via Boost. Some core modules include layout, users, and boost. Core modules are only deemed core modules when they provide functionality used by every other module in the system.

Founded and hosted by the Web Technology Group at Appalachian State University, phpWebSite is developed by the phpWebSite Development Team, a network of developers from around the world. phpWebSite is free, open source software and is licensed under the GNU GPL and GNU LGPL.

phpwcms

The Promotion Group uses a powerful content management system called phpwcms that offers the user a tremendous amount of variation to experiment with. As such, we have also included PromotionPlusMarketing.com to follow suit. It uses ImageMagick and GhostScript or PHP's GD1|2 capabilities for creating thumbnails and resizing images. ImageMagick is a collection of tools and libraries offered to read, write, and manipulate an image in many image formats while GhostScript is an interpreter for the PostScript language and for PDF. GD in phpwcms supports JPG, GIF and PNG as source image format only (often GIF is disabled by providers).

phpwcms is an Open Source web content management system. It is optimized for fast and easy setup and works on any standard webserver platform that supports PHP/MySQL and was tested successfully on Windows 2000/XP, MacOSX and LINUX. phpwcms is perfect for professional, public and private users. It is very easy to learn and gives you the flexibility to separate layout and content. It incorporates lots of powerful but simple features to assist publishers and web developers as well.
